CACKLE CORNER Written Especially for the Eagle Rock Sentinel by a Regular Correspondent Humane Killing [Newspaper Article] — Eagle Rock Sentinel — 26 April 1911
CACKLE CORNER Written Especially for the Eagle Rock Sentinel by a Regular Correspondent Humane Killing \ simple way to produce unconI sciousness in killing fowls is to reverse the usual routine of killing and. instead of cutting the blood vessels first .'iu l attempting to perforate the brain afterward, to begin by destroy ing all sensibility in the bird and then to proceed to bleed it. A separate instrument should be provided for each step in the procedure. The cutting knife ought never to be u-ed for perforating the skull and breaking up I the brain: its edge should be kept sharp for cutting the blood vessels in the neck and bleeding the bird properly. A large strong knife may be Used as a perforator, but a steel rod sharpened to a point and set on a I handle is a better tool for the purpose. An ice pick of suitable size would serve very well. Ihe bird being suspended by the legs, the head is held firmly by the left forefinger and thumb in such a manner that there may be no risk o...
