Timely Talk. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 20 February 1918

Timely Talk. Niwde Redrsela" a new arrival. writes :   Sir,-It srikes home to me that there is a Screw loose in the   machinery that governs your pioneer   town; the future "Calgary" of Aus-     tralia. On the father and mother of a child depends its future. The citi- zens of Ouyen today have that same responsibility, but they also have   the failures and successful methods   of older towns to guide them on the   right track. It is nothing short of     criminal to allow the sanitary ar- angements to continue as they are to-day. Examine the backyards and   outhouses of the boarding houses and other places. V.R.U. Smoke Social. [Newspaper Article] — Ouyen Mail — 27 February 1918

Each successive social gathering of the Ouyen- branch of the Victorian Railways Union tends to the in- reased popularity, and it is deserved. That of Friday ,night eclipsed any-   thing previously attempted, and the working committee, with the ener- getic Mr .J. Davidson as secretary, has every reason to be pleased.   The attendance was far ahead of pre-   ceding socials and quite a number   of tickets were sold, but not pre-   sented at the door. Socially the gathering was a pronounced success,     the items contributed being worthy   of any similar gathering anywhere. So impressed were some of the list-   ners that two at least of those who   contributed to the enjoyment will be heard again at the concert on March 20, and we can assure all who intend   being present that night of a treat.     Mr W. Muniey, presiden...
