MURDER BY BLACKS. THE VICTIM UNKNOWN. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 24 December 1895

MURDER BY BLACKS. THE VICTIM UNKNOWN. Messrs Gabbott and J. Tremberth arrived in Coolgardie to-day from beyond Kurnalpi, and have reported the murder of a prospector by blacks. The body is now lying under a tree at a spot about four miles from Kar doonga, 40 miles south of Kurnalpi. The discovery was made by a man named Connelly about six weeks ago. Connelly thought the remains were those of a blackfellow. The body was next found by a half-caste in the employ of Mr Horace Melville. Infor mation was sent to the Fraser's Range Station, and from thence to the authorities at Dundas, but the country is too dry to send out police. The appearance of the corpse was horrible, the head being smashed in. The deceased, so far as can bo judged, was from 40 to 55 years of age. He was of sandy complexion, with hair turning grey. His height was about 5ft 7in, and he was rather stout.
