Nineteen clauses hare been disposed of,i and numerous amendments made. Power was given to the Governor, bb under the existing act, to convey to trustees lands promised before the passing of this act for ministers' dwellings, &c.; the area of allotments was reduced from 640 acres to 320 acres ; and the half mile of frontage to a quarter of a mile.- The provision of the existing act for grants for church and educa tional establishments was also inserted; and clause 19 was amended so as to enable the Governor to issue Crown grants to selectors after compliance with the conditions of occu pancy for three years, or leases for a furthei period of seven years. ECHUCA SATURDAY, NOV. 6, 1869. A CORRESPONDENT, who has forgotten to give his real name but who is evidently a great friend of some one in the Borough Council, has written us a long letter on the subject of the election of mayor. We might have published his letter, notwithstanding his   reticence as to his identity, had he condensed it sufficiently for our columns; but it is such a lengthy affair that we are obliged to refuse it space, reluctantly, because it is temperately written. He contends that we were wrong in making the remarks we have done about the arrangement he says we asserted had been made for the disposal of the mayoral chair. In his opinion it would have been proper and even praiseworthy on the part of the councillors to have determined on electing the most eligible man among them, presuming that they had done so. An adjourned meeting; of bankers, mer chants, woolgrowers, and others interested in the sale of wool, was held at the Chamber of Commerce in Sydney, on the 2nd inst, to re ceive the report of a committee appointed on the 5th of October last. The committee appointed to inquire into and report upon the matter discussed at the meeting of hankers, merchants, woolgrowers, and others interested in the sale of woo), held at the Chamber of Commerce, on the 5th of October last submitted the following report:— " 1st. They are of opinion that all in quiries into the matters alluded to in the above resolutions, from the absence of the proper channels of information in the colony, may be best made in London. " 2nd. That to enable these inquiries to be made as searching and as independent as pos sible, a committee of gentlemen, representing all the Australian colonies, be appointed in London, and that the following gentlemen be invited to represent New South Wales there, viz:—D...
