ON MANAGEMENT OF PASTURES Agronomist Talks To Farmers Valuable information and advice was contained in a talk given by the District Agronomist (Mr. F. Autry Hall) to delegates at last week's annual meeting of the Bnrrangong District Council of the Fanners and Settlers' Association. He recommended subdivision of pastures to enable the grazier to centre his stock to best advantage, and also to facilitate the extermination of pests — rabbits, for example. Well-managed pastures should have adequate water and shade, said Mr. Autry-Hall, who advis ed his listeners not to plant single trees, but rather shelter belts, on two side of a pad dock. 'By continual over-stocking.' he continued, 'the sweeter grass es will die out, and coarser grasses will prosper. The seed ing of these heavy grasses will be prevented to a certain ex tent by heavy stocking at the time they are seeding. NITROGEN IN SOIL MUST BE REPLACED 'Constant grazing reduces the mineral content of the soil. This must be replaced)...

'To-day, councils in New South Wales are short of what is needed by at least £7,000,000 a year.
