THE question of organising a building so- ciety in Bowen was mooted soino timo ago, a letter having nppeared in our columns suggest- ing that the timo had arrived for such a society to commence operations hero. On Saturday last a number of ladies and gentlemen     availed themselves of the opportunity of   visiting the Salamander, which the kind per-     mission of her gallant commander, the hon.  J Carnagie, had enabled the captain and agents of       the Diamond, s., to afford to the citizens of   Brisbane. The excursionists assembled on board the Diamond at Raff's wharf,   and shortly after 11 o'clock Captain   Labbett mounted the bridge, when the steamer cast-off from the wharf and gallantly ploughed   her way down the river.
