Parliament has not been doing much, be-, yond talking about the Land'Bill, which is now - passing through Committee, of 'the House. Mr Godfrey moved an amendment to the effect that .the Crown Lands now un sold shall bo leased, and tliat Government shall by their means raise a revenue for tho public service. The proposal of the lion mem ber is now under discussion by tho House with faint hopes of its ultimately passing into law. * There is a very general depression in busi ness, and every one you meot is complaining of stagnation 'in trade. The 'Government not having yot made thoir fiscal policy' known, helps to prolong tlio uncertain ty that prevails, and altogether prospects , are nqt vory bright.
