MB. a. H. TURNER. Mr. Geoi^ge H. Turner has had a some what remarkable career. In 1853 he joined the Midland at Bristol. In 1876 Mr. W. L. Newcembe, the then chief goods manager, selected Mr. Turner as goods agent at Not tingham, and two years later, he promoted him to Derby as chief canvasser. In 1885 he was appointed chief goods manager of . the Glasgow and South Western Railway. In 1877 Mr. Neweombe resigned the goods managership of t&e Midland, and the directorate sent far Mr. Turner to take his place. In April, 1891, owing to the ill-health of Mr. Noble, general manager, the directors made Mr. Turner assistant general manager, from which post he has no w been raised to the position of general manager.
