DREDGING MILITANT. [Newspaper Article] — Wangaratta Chronicle — 1 July 1914

DREDGINaG MILITANT. - +-----. The Minister for Mines is attacked from two sides. First by the Mem ber for Ovens, Mr. A, A. Billson, M.L.A., who has called, upon the Govermeont to check their Minister for Mines and prevent him from ad ministering the law as he finds it; and next by the dredging interest in Bright and Melbourne, who object to carry out tlhe conditions of their leases, and claim the right:to con tinue their work of destruction of land and water In defiance of the provisions of the law. This situa tion has been made more acute by the action of the Labour leader-Mr. Elmslie-who has visited Bright and blessed the dredgers. Recently a number of members of his party visited the Bright valley, and were of one mind that the destruction wrought by dredging was so great that nothing could justify its con tinuance under existing conditions. We recognise the claims of party allegiance, but the destruction of the public estate is not a party ques tion, it is a national question, E...
