SERICULTURE. (ABRIDGED FROM THE O. and M. Advertiser) [Newspaper Article] — The North Eastern Ensign — 15 April 1873

' . : SERICULTURE. ,(nnBidaD Oitotn . aTl d 0 .. ddcireiseZ) 'a' i]iBladen Nell has adopted as heor mission the establishinent of serioultureo in the colonies, and should'sho succeed'in her enterprise she will have promoted in a'greater degree the welfare of her sex than all the advocates of women'i rights who ever declaimed from a platform. Mrs Neill 'has all the sanguine faith etn'a true enthusiast in the mission she has adopted. She believes that in the culture of silk is to be found the solution of the problem as to how agriculture is to be niade,to pay in the colonies; the growtli' of "grain" and the proddtilation of silk by' the far meres' wives, daughters, and other members of their.familices, in her opinion ,gill enable the fermers to ride over bad seasons, and to ,hold on to their crops in good easonos until -the market 'proves remunerative; in fact, silk culture, if Sproperly ,mnged, the. considers will go far to place the. farmers of. AMERICAN V. ENGLISH AGRICULTURAL IMPLEMENTS. [Newspaper Article] — The North Eastern Ensign — 15 April 1873

AMERICAN V. ENGLISa AGBICiULI TURAL IMPLEMENTS. There is somethinq quite amusing in Eng lish prejudice, especially that which prevails. in regard to our agricultural tools. It sp. pears that we make .but one tool which is conceded to bo superior to their own, and that is the hay-forks. The English agri. culturists have been forced to admit that our. light, springy hayforks are better than their clumsy and dull implements, and we found this tool on sale in stores, and in use in the fields, in all parts of England. This is curious enough, when we consider that they are not ignorant of the nature of most of our tools,'and the dullest comprehension ought to be able at once.to. see their superiority. The English implements are very heavy. Not one of any kind can be found but what contains two or three:times as much iron or steel atois needed. Laborers cannot do as. much work in a day with their heavy shovels, hoes, and spades, as they can with our sharp. cutting, light, elastic tools, an...
