THE NEW COMMISSION OF THE PEACE. [Newspaper Article] — Northern Times — 8 July 1857

- TITE NEW COMMISSION OF THE TF.ACR. After the delny of more than a yenr, his Excel lency's Ministers havo ventured upon the step of -issuing a now Commission of the Pence. We say ventured,' bccauso under nil the circumstances ?of'tlie case it is certainly u hold sti-p to take. Tim ?Ministry had a difficult task before them. Tliey to please their friends, and guard a^.iinst tl e attacks of the opposition at the same tiino. Wo had otir doubts as to their competency for this task — we have them still. \Ve never thought Mr. Parker and his colleagues capable of dealing with tho subject of a new Commission so as to give anything like general satisfaction. Of all the tasks bclore the Ministry, that of issuing a new 'Commission of the P.:ace una perhaps the most delicate and critical. It was a subject fit only to 'be handled by a Government far above the petty feelings and prejudices of party — a Government that would not fear to act with justice and impar tiality, no matter who might ho o...
