GEELONG. [Newspaper Article] — Portland Guardian and Normanby General Advertiser — 22 June 1854

THE RIFLE BRIGADE.--In accordance     with the resolution recently adopted by the merchants and trading community of Geelong, which we have alredy men- tioned, the places of business were closed at two o'clock yesterday afternoon, in order to afford parties engaged in such es- tablishments an opportunity of attending the muster of the rifle brigade. The brigade assembled in respectable force at the barrack yard, where the customary   drill was gone through. This is a practical evidenceof public spirit in     community so strongly imbued with the     spirit tof business as the people of Geelong The afternoon was unfortunately wet, and some parties were subsequently prevented from joining the ranks of the volunteers who would otherwise have been present.   --Geelong Advertiser.
