Iustcad of believing that times were hard and that money was scarce in Moss Valo and district oue would have thought that every person he met iu town on Xmas Eve was an opulent civil servant or M.P. at £300 per annum with about £3 3s per sit ting thrown in as a Public Works Commissioner (whore, by the way, thore is no money to spend on works) or else a retired lucky member of a Broken Hill syndicate. Kveryone was cither spending or appeared to be. The town looked cheerily enough, and the custom of decorating and illuminating was well carried out by the various stores and busiucas places. At tho Royal Hotel every available ver andah post bore up an Xmas bush, which looked very pretty Messrs. Taylor Brothers' store was bright with electric light and gay Chinese lantorns wero wafted to and fro by the cool pleasant breeze prevailing.
