At 10 o dock on Friday morning, 18fch instant, Miss Julia Bertha Finck passed away. The first sign of failing health manifested itself three years ago, but it was not till twelve months afterwards thai) her illness assumed a serious state. Since then however, she had been gradually losing strength. until two months before her death Bhe was compelled to take to her bed. She bora her illness with Christian fortitude, and beloved by all who knew her, a faoi which was evidenced by the large number of moiirners who attended the funeral on Sunday, the cortege including 60 well laden buggies, besides horsemen. Bora at Natimuk on 1st August, 1888^ the late Miss Finck was thus in her 26th year. She was the second daughter of the late Mr G. H. C. Finck and Mrs W. H. Meredith. Thornton, who has been head teacher at the local State school for the past two and a half years, and has now left to take ap duties in the North Melbourne State school. Edenhope News. (From Our Own Correspondent) On Wednesday last. Mr James Fletcher died at Lake WaMace home stead. On Thursday morning a postmortem examination was made by Or Halakau, after which an ins quest was held. Dr Halahan stated that, in his opinion, the cause of death was syncope, due to the bad state of the heart, and the coroner found accordingly. The remains were interred in the local cemetery on Friday. The Rev C"R. JETouatrn conducted the ceremony at the grave side. Deceased leaves a widow and a son to mourn their loss On Saturday a meeting of the Church of England congregation was held. The balance sheet of the re . cent bazaar was read.and a balance of £134/16/6 was shown. The bal« ance sheet to date of the Church of England Building Fund was then read, which showed a balance of £-103/13/9. Patriotism at Gymbowen ; « j Evidence of the patriotism of Gym* ' bowen residents was given on Friday, nth inst, when the local hall, which I was nicely decorated for the occasion, was filled to overflowing. The occa sion was a patriotic meeting, and judg ing by the expressions made during the evening the meeting was justly calltd patriotic Cr W. H. Knight occupied the chair. After the Gcroke band had rendered several selections, the Chairman an.-, nounced that the Rev T. Cole would ofter intercessory prayers. Prayers over, a very suitable programme of speeches, vocal aud musical items was gone through Violin duet, Misses I. Knight and S Richards Cr Knight then moved that this meeting of tbo residents of Gymbowen and district expresses its unbounded loyalty to the British Throne and Sovereign.
