Tramping about all hours of the night and day looking for "crooks" and "promotion" isn't such a lovely job as you may imagine—drunks as a rule are easily enough picked up, but there's not much pro motion attached to running them in, so it's just as well not to see them if you can help it Do you know, I've often thought if people would drink nothing but tea—good tea like Robur—their youngsters would grow up to do likewise, and there'd be little fear of their ever becoming boosers —and what a difference it would make to us chaps—for, though you'll hardly believe it, still, it's true all the same—at least nine out of every ten cases that go through a police man's hands are due to the poor devils drinking stuff that's stronger than tea. Now, by tho look on your face I believe you intend to be one of llie first to set a good example. Here's luck to you —you'll find it no hardship if you use Robur tea, especi ally if you use the No. I Grade; it's the best tea I know, and I've tried every ...

An Apt Pupil. [Newspaper Article] — Foster Mirror and South Gippsland Shire Advocate — 15 April 1915

An Apt Pupil. During a visit to London, Mascagnl, the celebrated composer, was seated at liis hotel window one day, when a street organ stopped and proceeded to grind out his famous intermezzo from "Cavalleria Rusticana." The organ-grinder turned the handle in a rather jerky way, and the result was that the tune came forth in spasms. At length, unable to bear it any longer, Mascagnl rushed bare-headed from the hotel and reproached the man for play ing the intermezzo so badly. "I," he said, "am Mascagnl; I am the com poser. And I shall myself show you how to play it." He solemnly turned the handle, so that the organ-grinder might notice the correct time. The man thanked him, and the composer went back to his hotel The next morning the same organ-grinder np proached and again took up his stand outside the hotel. As Masc.agni was I leaving a few minutes later he noticed [ a crowd collected round the street i organ. He paused a moment to see | what they were looking at, and found ; that...

AS WOMAN IS SEEN BY HER JUDGES. There if? much good sense and truth in the remark that no man ever pros pered in the world without the co operation of his wife.—Davies. Most of their faults women owe to us, whilst we are Indebted to them for most of our better qualities—Lem esle. One thing only I believe in a wo man—that she will not come to life again after she is dead; to everything else I distrust her till she is dead.— Antiphanes.
