f?rom the London Times (city article) Aug. 6.] THE WAR US INDIA. Tlie Indian Mutiny—IU Effects on Tradn and Supply. Although one of the most important considerations arising out of the Indian mutiny is its probablo boaring oo our finance and trade during tho next twelve months, notbing could be more contradiotory than the views expressed upon it. In England, and especially on the London Stock Exohange, the conviction obviously is that the event will increase the pressure for money and the drain of bullion. In Indiu, on the contrary, there are many intelligent merchants who expect a totally opposite result. The contingencies on cither side are so vaguo that it is a point on which the most clear-headed people may differ. A review of all the facts thus fur presented seems, however ( to favor the hope that no very adverse effect will be produced Here. The first great question is, will the Indian Government look to be supplied with funds from England ? Of course, if that should bo th...

Wit^tiB FRiDAt-^AtrG'iJST 21. 1857. BHKAKKKS A-HEAI). ; , Before many years have passed , the vast territory in the ; Souther^ pcean, known as Australia) almost a continent in oxtont, will have passed from under the rule of England. The poet has said that . ... •-"•¦ - . . ' " Comini events cast their shadows boforo ;" and tmly the every-day events in Australia point to Imt one consummation—its separation from the motherfcbrinlTy, and (as monarchical institutions are ' dying out, * faded and effete) Its almost cortain establishment as a distinct , democratic, and independent Republic. For some persons, history(tersely described as Philosophy -.teaching by Experience) is of no use as an instructor. The successive Governments of England, during the l&et thirty years, have been worse than negligent of their great Australian colony.' To neglect is one thing, often leading tho neglected parties into that striving self-exertion which achieves the greatest and. most .perm...
