Ladies of New Orleans Assurred They Would Meet No One Obnoxious to Them New Orleans , March 26 , —With no negro delegates present the National Council of Women of the United States opened their session Thursday . Mrs , Mary Woods-Swift presided and only general officers and presidents and delegates of affiliated organizations and patrons of the council were present . The session was behind closed doors and , the press committee announced that the meeting would exclusively be devoted to the transaction of important business pertaining to council work . KEENLY DISAPPOINTED . Daughters of the American Kevolution throughout the state are keenly disappointed over the fate of their bill to purchase the site of Fort Massac , in Massac county . The bill is practically of no value . The amount of money which may be used for the purchase of the site is limited to $ > 0 an acre . The bill carries the original $ 10 , 000 , or so much of it as may bo necessary . One day when it was on second reading some one poked in the little amendment that the land should not cost to exceed $ 50 an acre . It passed before the friends of the bill had time to come to . Its friends in the assembly were not niauy , although little opposition was shown to the measure . A few years ago the owner of the property was willing to give it to the state . ABOUT SAN JOSE SCALE . Dr . S . A . Forbes ol Urbana Makes His Report State Entomologist Tells of Campaign Against Pest—Recommends That Inspection Law Be Changed . From a report now in press , made to the governor . by the state entomologist , I ) r S . A . Forbes , of Urbana , covering his operations during the last two years under the horticultural inspection law , it appears that there are 201 nurseries in Illinois , ranging in size from one-eighth of an acre or less , to about 500 acres actually occuarea in this state on which nursery trees were standing last fall was 2 . & X ) acres . The average annual cost of the inspection of these nurseries , as paid by the nurserymen , was $ 3 . 03 each , or 37 cents an acre for the land actually in trees .
