The College Student and the _fiewspaper . The college student should read regulaily a reliable daily newspaper . It is also desnable that he should have a general acquaintance with current weekly and monthly periodicals . This statement is at once objectjected to on the scoie of lack of time ; what is heie advocated will not requne any waste of valuable time . The student is engaged in picparing himself for a useful life , he is learning to think , he is forming an acquaintance with the gieat pnnciples of language , of history , of philosophy , of political and social science , of the natmal sciences . The Musical Clubs Concert Last Friday evening the College Musical Clubs added another concert to their already large list , this time the place being Taneytown , Md . Our boys left Gettysburg late in the afternoon , and in a comparatively short time coveied the fouitccn miles of dusty , hilly road which brought them to then destination . 1 lere , after having spent a short time at their hotel , they repaired to the Opera Mouse , where they were gratified to find assembling a good sized audience . Owing to the unexpected absence of Mr . W . D Moycr , the Mandolin and Guitai Club s instructor , who is also the organizations best instrumental soloist , it was found necessay to make severat changes in the program . However the substitutions gave great satisfaction , and the Clubs throughout acquitted themselves in a manner most pleasing to the audience , as well as highly creditable to themselves . The fact that they were heartily encored at every appealance is sufficient evidence that ...

74 Class Reunion . Thiough the courtesy of Rev . Chas . M . Stock , D . D ., of Hanover , Pa ., Sccietary of the class of 74 , we have received a copy of the circular lettei which is being sent to all the membeis ol that class in the interest of the reunion , which is to take place during the coming commencement . The letter referred to , is one well calculated to arouse and revivify all the former college spirit of those to whom it is addressed , and it has already elicited fiom neaily every member of that sturdy old class a piomise to be on hand when the class-roll is called next June . This _icunion will doubtless be one of the most interesting featuies of commencement and will add dignity and honor to the occasion by bringing back again into the college precincts a class whose members have been peculiaily successful since thcii graduation , and have won for themselves distinction in the vauous professions into which they entered . The class at present numbcis twenty one members ...

ATHUETIC NEWS . Dickinson _15—Gevivsdurg 6 On last Thursday the season was opened on the home grounds by a game with Dickinson in which we weie beaten by the scoie of 15 to 6 . A large ciowd was present , who ought have seen something better , but weie _tieated to an exhibition of poor fielding on both sides , in which Gettysbuig sutpassed a little Roehner pitched a fine game , and would have won if he had received any suppoit whatever , as most of the hits made off him could have been fielded with proper effoit . Colona for Dickinson was batted out in the Mist thiee innings , and Ensmingcr substituted in the fourth . But he was wild and eir . itic , and in this inning Gettysbuig biought in thicc _uins ; accordingly Colona was biought back fiom right field , and succeeded in holding himself well for the rest of the game . Hatting on both sides was good , but this was the only featuic ih which either team showed up well , as enois weic numeious and costly . Dickinson started with a l...

SOCIETIES . IMIKCKA . The following program was _icndered last Friday evening : Orations , Weber , Hafer , Howard and Straw . The debate , Resolved , That the present credit system is conducive to more evil than good , was warmly contested by both sides . The speakers on the affimative side were Klinefelter and V . Frey , on the negative side , Edwards and Staley . The judges decided in favor of the negative . Each person on the program performed his part well and showed that he gave it careful preparation . The piogram was not as full as usual owing to the fact that so many of the speakers weie not present to perform their parts . We urge that every member of Fhrena , when on the program , make it a special point to be piesent and not disappoint the society by his absence . IM 1 ILO . v . m . c . a . The fundamental , life-giving principle of the Y . M . C . A . is the Bible Study Department . If this fails us the spiritual growth of the association will be hindered and hence the moral tone of the college will fall . The spiritual outlook of the college for some time past has been growing brighter . Shall we not make this to continue ? If we intend to we must have more eaincst work in our Bible classes Fellows , won t you duiing this spiing term when the evenings aie so inviting to do something else , just be willing to spend one hour together in Bible Study ? We need and we urge every fellow- to join in it . We must have more earnest , prayerful work done . On Sunday morning May 7 , we expect to have with us Mr . E . D . Soper , the Secretaiy of the college associations of the state . Don t neglect to be present . Youll be fully repaid for coming . \ v . j . m , jr .
