ALL HAVE GOOD HEADS BUT THAT IS NOT ALL . ALL HAVE GOOD BACKS AND FEET . AND ALL ARE SIRED BY THE SAME GREAT BOAR . To meet the unprecedented demand for good Berkshires at reasonable prices , I have just purchased from Mr . Wm . Osburn , Morris , 111 ., thirty young sows all sired by Purdue s Robinhood , the sire of the first-prize pen of Barrows at the 1909 International . Purdue s Robinhood was used extensively by the Indiana Agricultural College , and sold to Mr . E . J . Barker , Thorntown , Ind ., who sold him to Mr . Wm . Osburn of Morris , 111 ., after that gentleman had sold the great boar Premier Francis . Mr . Osburn considers Purdue s Robinhood the equal , if not the superior , of any boar he has ever used , and this lot of Purdue s Robinhood sows that I have just purchased fully demonstrates the greatness of this boar as a sire . These sows are out of fashionably bred dams ; every one of them has a good head , without sacrificing length and depth of body , with good back...

A Word From Tennessee [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 February 1911

A Word From Tennessee I once had a friend who had read a little of the Bible and a great deal of Sut Lovingood , whose pet declaration was If a man exalt not his own horn like unto the horn of an unicorn , it shall not be exalted . From this introduction some of your readers are already saying : Look out for something about Hiram Abiff , or that other greatest son of Lees Artful Premier 12 th . Nothing of the kind ! Marley Riley has the great Grand Master , who won him two handsome blue ribbons last Fall at the Indiana and the Illinois State Fairs . The other , a son of Lee s Artful Premier 12 th and Longfellows Duchess 10 th , who will be known to the world as Premier Longfellow 4 th , is in my pasture and you cannot get him out without sending me a big check . But you will see him next fah in the Big Ring . My real motive for writing this , though , is to tell you something of the Berkshires in Tennessee . The two greatest Berkshire farms in this section of the Bluegrass are Brook...

Notes From Penshurst Farm [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 February 1911

Notes From Penshurst Farm Editor Berkshire World : —We have recently had five of our Jerseys finish yearly autnenticated tests , three mature cows and two two-year-olds . They were not forced for all they- were worth , but had good feed and care . When reporting them to the A . J . C . C . we totaled their production and find the five gave in the year 4214 . 2 pounds and 13 ounces of milk , testing 2743 pounds and 8 ounces of 85 % butter ; this is an average of 8428 pounds , 9 ounces of milk , and 548 pounds , 11 ounces of butter . A pretty good average for the five , especially when two of them are two year old heifers . We have several others that will finish their tests in the next two months , that will exceed these averages very much . inese are the kind of cows we are breeding to the great Golden Fern s Son 78687 , and from the looks of his daughters , he will make a name for himself , second only to his famous sire , Golden Ferns Lad . Satisfied Hog Buyers . [Newspaper Article] — Berkshire World and Cornbelt Stockman — 1 February 1911

Satisfied Hog Buyers . Hog buyers from every state in the Union have one trait of character in common . They always want just what they buy . That is exactly what every man gets who buys from the Lippincott Pure Bred Stock Farms of Lima , Ohio , an old established firm of breeders who appreciate the kind words of satisfied customers more than the money of these customers . These breeders will hold no public auction this year and will sell the entire output of the five farms at private sale and on mail orders . Every month they will make a special offering of a few animals of choicest breeding and individuality . Whether a new breeder , or a breeder of large experience , you will profit by looking into every special offer made by this firm . Here is what a young breeder of good qualifications who purchased at one of these special offerings has to say about his purchase : Nashua , N . H . Dec . 4 , 1910 .
