Just received at Goudran's Blue Store a large and well selected stock of Sum mer goods. The Terps have indefinitely postponed the ball which they had intended to give on the 12th inst. This is the season for April showers, and we are having them. The rainfall of Thursday was quite heavy, many of the street gutters in the rear portion of town being filled to overflowing. The April term of District Court was opened last Monday, but in respect to the memory of Circuit Judge A. C. Du nuartrait and on account of the overflow, the court was at once adjourned until the 17th instant. Sunday evening before last the steamer Whisper broke a shaft while passing Bonnet Carr6 point on her way to New Orleans. The Yazoo has been chartered to take the place of the Whisper until tihe damage to the latter is repaired. During our temporary absence, last T...

Perhaps this is the one compeusating circuipstance in the inflic tion of so lunch bad weather. Certain it is that the tourjst who is, for the mo ment, quite indifferent to conversatioual success, finds no sipecial aid to sight seeing in a weary succession of dull, leaden skies, and cold, dripzling rains. Hlow we have'longed for some of our glorious Louisiana snshineo! But any impatient word or expression of selfish regret on our part illa been checked by the too-real cry of distress which comes from the agricultrannd portions of Great Br...

M¥ DEAR FLOY : The past few days seem to have dropped .out of my lili i n wene unaccountable way, and I glance at my calendar with a start tio ind that we are standing upon the eve of the 25th of March, which you know is n memorable anniversary. I have missed the reckoning somehow, for it appeared po later than the ides of March and it Alid not occur to me that mi-careme, as the French say, was past and gone. That is the halting spot where our Roman Cath %,lic brethren pause to take breath in their forty days' pilgrimage and penance. Entertaintmeuts are adjudged quite legit imate then, and the brooding stillness and solemnity of Lent is interrupted for a slight aberration into the walks of worldly enjoyment. TheI the banners are unfurled again and the steady march goes on till the Easter glory shines from hill-crest and tree-tops, at...
