THE FAIR PLAY. YALLEE HAROLD, Editor. ! SAILED AT, (HTOllLKWTH. 11. Next week tells the tale in Ohio. The children's primer man has been turned loose in the St. Louis Pot-Di- JKltcJt. The heated dierussion of the ver dict in the Frank James trial has about run its course. Last Sunday's Globe-Democrat con sisted of twenty-four pages. The G. D. is something of a newspaper. Just now the Grcenbackers do not seem to be making a considerable fig urc in politics, even with their mouths. Tlic best thing the versatile New York Svn can do is to drop Holman and add its strength to the Tilden boom. Mark our prediction. There will be considerable of an opening for "a dark horse" in the coming gubernator ial race. Governor Crittenden should fire more nerve and vigor and less psalm singing into the composition of the St. Louis police board. The Massachusetts Democrats have rc-noiniuated Duller for Governor, but it is an open question whether he will gel there or not, this season. The lah-de-dah yo...

rpTTTTi TCT A TTJ TT AV i ILXj r AXXl L 1; A j. , VALLEE HAROLD, Editor. SATURDAY, OCTOUEB lfTH. 1883. It takes Chicago to "knock the stuff in' out" of St. Louis when It comes to playing base ball. The Olobe-Democrat'n presidential lore seems to be about equal It divid ed between Arthur and Greshara. It is estimated that the working men of this country spend $t00,000,000 annually for whiskey and tobacco. The national debt was reduced some thing over $15,000,000 during Septem ber. This is doing somewhat better. eea Presidcut Arthur is still jaunting around and the old ship bowls as smootuly and geutly along as though the chief steersman was at the helm. Alex. N. DcManil, a writer of con siderable merit, hns been placed in charge, aud is adding much brilliancy to the respectable St. Louis Magazine. The Iowa Democrats have been mak ing a brave and gallant light, but it is scarcely possible that they "will get there, Kli,n this trip. May bo they will some other time in the not distant f...

All tlie best medical authorities ajjreo. upon this .statement. Xo one disputes that fruit is more easily obtained in the summer than in the winter. Very few ljoy po out, in this elimate, to rob water-nielon patehes on t'hristmas eve. And the cases in which people take th cholera by loiminjj about in the grass, cntiti" preen apples in January are very rare. And we all aree that fruit should be used larg-ely as a food. Sonic people may prefer to ue it as a raiment, but this is not right. Then banana is some times very successfully used as a roller kate, but this use of that esculent is impnM-r and forced. The onion may also be diverted from its use as a fod and employed as a weaKn of nflence. And the hucksters make...

Her 15,000 Democratic inajoiity is a thing of great beatify. Every editor, publisher aul proprie tor in the Southeast should joiu the Press Association. We now hope that the F. Vs,' the First Fmn'lies of Virginia, will keep up the work o well begun in Ohio and tiro the Maliouc crowd out wii.li a 50,000 majority. Iowa goes Republican by about 30. 000 and gives the same majority for prohibition. Wo hope our stolid con temporary, the Ifitmht, will be able to discover .he relation of these two facts to each other. The muddle in the board of police commissioners of St. Louis continues to thicken and people arc beginning to get an itikliug of the reason why Oilictideu carried St. Louis in the primary meetings just before the stale couvttiition. Jv ' r. - t Y K -HE FAIR PLAY. VALLEE HAROLD, Editor. SATCBDAY. OCTOBER S7TII. IMS. This rear, for the first time in a quarter of a centurv, the Democrats will hare complete control of Ohio, executive, legislative and judicial. Our intercourse with the brethren of the press at Cape Giraadcau was so pleasant that we could write nice things of them by the column and never tire. Of course tho man who is always in a hurry in such matters has uoiiiinat ed lloadly, the newly elected Gover nor of Ohio, as the Democratic candi date for President. A queer feature of the Ohio election was that one county, Hamilton, out of the eighty-five composing the state, furnished one-fourth of the vote by which prohibition was defeated. "Occasional", the St. Louis corres pondent of the Jefferson City Tribune remarks that "Col. Walker will find a formidable competitor in Mr, Wn. F. Cox, of Ste. Genevieve, for Auditor." The Cape Xewt is steady, reliable and prosperous. In fact it is just such a journal as ...

The annual aUtn election occurs in New York aext Tuesday. The Dem ocratic majority on that occasion Is set down at 50,000, in round numbers. As usual the old Republican comes lumbering' along after all the others and rolls i onto Gov. Crittanden with all the accumulated venom of years. Now that Gen. Grant has been as signed as the apsanjunaker to the Grand Army or the Republic we are sure that he will nerer bo politically resurrected. Of course, we would rather have a railroad for Stc. Jot this solid fact down in your not book, gentlemen ot the press: A united aad harmonious Southeast can have what they want for the asking in the next state convention.
