YACHTING. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 24 September 1885

YACHTING. The boys had a merry time at the San Francisco Yacht Clubhouse on Saturday night. The yachts Chispa, Rambler, Thetis, Whitewing Ripple, Emerald and Startled Fawn came over with parties aboard, aud a number of guests came on the ferries. During the evening all met at the clubhouse, where a mock court-martial was convened, and one of the members of the club was tried for insubordination. There was also some excellent singing by the crew of the Emerald. The night was a beautiful one and all hands enjoyed themselves. Saturday afternoon the prizes won in the Pacific Clubs' annual regatta were presented to the winners, who responded with pleasant speeches and numerous baskets of liquid refreshment. The club's closing day festivities will not be characterized by a race. It is stated that arrangements are being made for a race between the sloops Thetis, Flirt and Swanberg and plungers Restless, Annie and Boss, over the Hunter's Point and Fort Point course, to finish at Meigg's wha...

THE ART OF GOOD TALKING. [Newspaper Article] — Sausalito News — 24 September 1885

THE ART OF GOOD TALKING. Tho Virtue In » Uoo J Subjoct uml tho Value of Sllonre. Those who are DOl wry good talkers, and are mortifie 1 sometimes by being the wall (lowers of the evening, may get some consolation from the consideration that there is a great deal of talk that could very well bo spared, and that idle words must be accounted for. Indeed, they also serve who only listen. A Frenchman once said of a gentleman in whom he could detect no other quality worthy of compliment, "that he had a great talent for silence."
