VOL. 9 No. 39 4th AD Soldier Off To USMA Cpl. James F. Garvey of the 4th Armored Division's 144th Ar­ mored Sig Co is on the road to West Point. A radio relay team chief Gar­ vey left Fort Hood to attend the West Point. A radio relay team chief Garvey left Fort Hood to attend the West Point Preparatory School. A former 4th Armored Division oldier of the Month he entered he Service in April 1953 and re­ ceived his basic training at Fort Riley Kansas. From Omaha Ne­ braska Garvey is a 1952 graduate of the Roosevelt Military Academy in Aledo Illinois. He is scheduled to enter West Point Military Academy in July 1956 after completing the prepa­ ratory course. Two hundred umpires at Fort Hood did the work of an army of 100000 men this week as the First and Fourth Armored Divi­ sions and IH Corps prepared for maneuvers in Louisiana next month. -*s» A Thursday Sept. 29 1955 Mizell Beats Hood In Final Game 9-0 The Fort Hood Tankers who up set the experts in the Fourth Army baseball tournament beating the opposition decisively went to the All-Army play as underdog. By fighting their way to the fi­ nals they provided the biggest sur­ prise of the tourney held at Fort Belvoir Va. The Tanker's who were undefeat­ ed in the double elimination type tournament sent Arnold Earley to the mound in the game scheduled for Tuesday afternoon in an effort to grab the championship. Earley had been the mound star both in the Fourth Army and in the All- Army tourneys. He encountered too much opposition in Billy O'Dell Baltimore Orioles bonus pitcher and Fort McPherson (Third Army) team. O'Dell dominated the Hood- men for a 7-1 triumph the first Tankers' loss.
