YACHTING ACCIDENT. ONE LIFE LOST. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 24 December 1895

YACHTING ACCIDENT. ONE LIFE LOST. The yacht Vixen, . whilst sailing on the Perth water on Saturday, capsized and sank at Frenchman's Bay. Nine men were on board, and all were picked up except one, who, it is supposed, got entangled in the rigging and went down with the boat. Were it not that a number of yachts were racing on the same tack, more lives must have been lost. Some of those picked up were much exhausted. It is thought that the accident happened owing to an occupant of the boatjibing in a strong breeze instead of going about. The Vixen is the same boat in which Messrs Driffield and Darlot and two others met with an accident some time ago. The body of the missing man, whose name is Wm. Curtain, has not yet -been recovered. Later. The body of the man William Curtain has been recovered. The deceased was aged 24 yeai's, and he had only recently arrived from Coolgardie.

Government to proceed to the field and explore it, has seen these identical stones and pronounces them the ' real .article,' but of course ttieir commercial value cannot be determined until ...

THE Kalgoorlie Miner. PUBLISHED DAILY. TUESDAY, DEC. 24TH, 1895. [Newspaper Article] — Kalgoorlie Miner — 24 December 1895

— THE — Kalgoorlie Miner. PUBLISHED DAILY. TUESDAY, DEC. 24th,' 1895. , To-morrow is Christmas-day. In a newly established mining community it is unreasonable to look for all the plea sures and associations that amongst Christian nations usually accompany the celebration nf tlie annivwaoTO nf +Tiai--i'-i.+i-- of the founder of their religion. That there are few outward signs on. these fields to remind us of the arrival of the season is therefore not surprising. Many of the enjoyments and comforts of civili zation are still beyond the reach of the people of Kalgoorlie and the district, but as a quid pro quo, many of the residents here are reaping, or are on the eve of reaping a golden harvest. The great numbers who have left the fields- for ?well-deserved holidays make the; lot of those who remain somewhat harder, but all could not go away, and -those who I have stayed behind can have the satis faction of feeling that they are but doing their duty in keeping to their posts. To us who...
