POLICE COURT Tíiursday, January 27íh. Eliza Thompson was charged withstealing eight sovereigns and a silver walch, froth the person of William Norman, on Wednesday last. William Norman, residing at the White Hart, by trade '* a little of everything," stated that on Wednesday afteraoon between three and four o'clock, he met the prisoner at ihe^cornerof Morphett-street. They went into Williams'« and partook of some re- freshment after which they weiit to the prisoner's house. At that time be was in possession of a silver watch, guard, end seals, also ninesoverei¿ns fastened in a small belt round his knee, similar to a garter. Having occasion to pet some change be pulled the sovereigns out in the prisoner's presence and took one from them. Witness then fastened them up again and returnedIfaem to the old position. Road across the Park Lands.-A letter was ¡read from Mr McCarron, of Thebarton, With respect to a certain cross road from the Port-road to the River Torrens. Referred to the Market Committee. Fire Brigade.-Mr D. Fisher said that some time back, a .Committee had been formed, but : without any powers, ile was now desirous that such a motion should be rescinded, and one substitoted in its plate to the effect that the Committee appointed should carry out the best means for the establishment of that desirable object.
