END OF LIFE'S JOURNEY Death of Mrs. Mary Payne After a three months' illness dur- ing part of which she was an in-   mate of the Orange Hospital, Mrs. Mary Anne Payne, one of the oldest and most respected residents of Gil- gandra, passed away at 11 a.m. On Tuesday at the residence of her     daughter (Mrs. McDonald) of Wom- boin Street. Deceased had reached tho ripe ago of 86 year. The late Mrs. Payne was one of     the sturdy western pioneers. She   was born at Bathurst in 1844 and had vivid recollections of the never-to-be forgotten, hectic early days, especi- ally the frenzied rushes to the Gul- gong and Hill End goldfields and the daring exploits of Ben Hall and Co. and other notorious highwaymen.     The octogenarian married twice, and both her husbands pre-deceased her. The first time she changed her appellation it was to Mrs. Tyson. All her children were of the first union,...
