THE PROPOSED SHIP CANAL. Pursuant to a requisition addressed to the Right Worshipful the Mayor by the Committee appointed to determine the best mode of obtain- ing direct communication between Hobson's Bay and Melbourne, a public meeting was held on Wednesday, at the Mechanic's Institute to hear the Report of the Committee. The chairman read the requisition, and briefly opened the meeting. He believed most of the colonists were impressed with the importance of improving the means of water communication between the City and the Bay, although, from the few persons in attendance, it would not seem so.
