The little rats cling to the parents in various ways. Tho male of Oheiromcles torquatus has a nursing pouch in winch it holds them, so relieving tho mother, and sometimes, while the mother holds the young, tho male places himself before her so that they are perfectly screened and protected. The largest o£ the bats aro tho so called flying foxes, specimens of which nro often landed at San Francisco and shipped Ivast.
