_^ The General _Assembly of 1857._^ The multitude of subjects which come-before the Assembly is such, that we cannot enlarge upon them all. We notice a few of them in our editorial columns, that our readers may have a glimpse of the more important transactions. In other columns, and in smaller type, we give more extended notes of the Proceedings, in their order. THB SABBATH. Sabbath, the 24th, was a delightful day. 1m churches were thronged, and we have reason to believe that the Gospel was faithfully preached. There may hare been something of man's sinful frailty in the manner, and even in the spirit. Pride and vanity beset the best. These are great tormentors of the truly devout minister. In making his best efforts, he is annoyed. And it is not always great- efforts ' which convert men; neither is it on great occasions that hearers always receive the most benefit.
