Local Editorial Page. THE LEDGER TAKES NEW FORM. Ihe Ledger this week celebrates the anniversary of its birth by greeting its readers in larger size and more conve nient form. We have discarded the folio or four-page style for the quarto or eight-page form. The change increases the size of the paper materially. In its former shape the Ledger ' was printed on a sheet 26x40 inches, whereas the size now adopted demands a sheet 30x44 inches, the enlargement amounting to 180 square, inches. The ; pages are smaller — -15-22 instead of 20x26 inches. The reduced size of page will be found mkch handier, .both for reader and advertiser, especially" when it reaches the subscriber, as it is designed- it shall do, cvt 1 and -pasted.. We have contemplated this im provement for some. ,. Local Editorial Page. SAN FRANCISCO ELECTION. After a bitter contest, Ithe municipal election in San Fran cisco resulted in the success of mayor Taylor and his associates on the good government or non-partisan ticket by large majorities. Taylor defeated McCarthy, the N labor union candidate, by about ir,ooo votes; Ryan, the straigh-out re publican nominee, was a poor third. Langdon, for district attorney, beat his opponent McGowan by over 16,000. The outcome will help to restore confidence in San Francisco, which has been so badly shattered since the fire by the , graft revelations and the disgraceful riot's arising out of the strike of the street-car men. All classes outside of the mem bers of the trade organizations— and many of them have had their fill of dabbling in -politics— are rejoiced at the signal defeat of the labor union ticket. That element, represented by Schmitz and hisboodling board of supervisors', has made the sorriest ' mess in government affairs that has-been wit...
