1 u J i FRENCH HORROR Kaval Powder Magazine At La Gon bran Explodes With Bad Results Houses Destroyed Trees Overturned and Distorted Fields Devastated and Cov ered W ith stones and Debris Tons of Powder Exploded Toulon March 6 The naval pw der magazine of La Goubran between La Seyne aDd Toulon in the -department of Var Southern France ex ploded at half past 2 oclock Sunday morning All of the soldiers on duty at the magazine were killed and a number of inhabitants of the surrounding dis trict in the buildings in which were razed also fell victims Forty corpses have already been recovered The cause of the explosion is not known The 50000 kilogrammes of black powder exploded It looks as though a volcanic eruption had occurred the country being swept almost bare with in a radius of two miles houses de stroyed trees overturned and dis torted fields devastated and covered with stones and impalpable black dust Some of the stones are enormous One weighing 50 kilo grammes fell in the suburb ...
