A very serious lire was averted on the Mohler place, twelve miles southeast of Ritivillc, today. Mr. Mohler and son were in town with a load of wheat and twa of the small boys started a bonfire under a lot of header boxes which were lying in the barnyard. Mrs. Mohler discovered the fire and saved the straw stack which stood near. If it bad not been put out at the time it would have destroyed the house and other buildings. A young *un named Straton sustained a bad fracture of the leg yesterday, caused by the wheels of a heavy wheat wagon passing over him. The young ■an was driving eight horses to a trail wagon and in an effort to adjust some sacks that were out of place, while the Mam waa moving, he lost his balance aad (ell under the wheels three of which passed over the leg. About ten days a«o Benjamin Spencer a resident of this section for several years past, who has been running a threshing machine north of Ritzville this fall cashed a worthless checks tot aling $40 95 at the Hotel Odessa, which when presented for payment at the First National bank at Ritzville, were declared worthless, Spencer having no funds in the bank. As he left the next day for parts unknown, there is no doubt but that Mr. Weisgerber is out his money. Recent reports from Ritzville confirm the fact that Spencer left a number of Ritzville men in the hole by the same method.—Odessa Record. Five years ago T. Divorce was granted Saturday, September 22 They were married in Spokane some years ago, having lived there about six years, moving to this city a year mo. She secured her divorce on the grounds of ill treatment. They have a son, Rov, 4 years old, which the court placed in care, of the mother. O. R. Holcomb was her attorney. Bert Vose was placed under a restraining ordej to keep the peace. Mr. and Mrs. Walter Mercer, who have lived in Adams county for the past five years, have moved to Usk, Stevens county, where they purchased 275 acres of timbered lani ind will embark in the stock and /ersified farming business. The American armored cruisers, Maryland and Pennsylvania, have en tered the Suez canal bound south ward. Gustaf Roscher, age 67, and his wife, 10 years younger, were found dead In bed recently at Chicago with the gas turned on. Mary Bowan, accused of embez zling $7,000 from the money order de partment of the Oakland, Cal., post office, was found not guilty. The de fense was insanity. By an explosion of a converter in the plant of the Illinois Steel com pany at South Chicago about 20 work men were badly burned, two of them so seriously that it is believed they will die. Howick of Walla Walla were guests of friends in this ■ city last week. Mr. and Mrs. Day Imus who have been visiting at their old home in lowa returned home last week. George McCreedy, recently from lowa, has accepted a position with the Potlatch Lumber Company. Harry Beacon and family, who have been spending the past month in the east, returned home last week. Henry Meyers a well known ranch cher three miles south of town, has sold his home farm. J. B. Crall, a rancher northwest of town, who had his hand taken of re cently, has sold his 480-acre ranch to a Mr. Friend.
