Page 4 SACHSE SENTINEL DECEMBER 1086 & NEW POLICE CHIEF TAKES OFFICE Tom Fenley, new police chief for Sachse, receives the oath of office from Mayor Henry Luman. Tom Fenley, a Garland resident, was appointed as Sachse's new police chief on November 4, 1985. Fenley was selected for the position from more than 40 applicants that had ap- plied for the job. Fenley, who is 37 years old, attend- ed Texas A & M and received his degree in business from Anglenia College in Lufkin, Texas. Fenley is one of only .three police in the State of Texas who holds a polygraph license. He served as a patrolman for six years in Farmers Branch, in Nacogdoches as a lieute- nant and as a chief in Iowa Park, TX and Lake Dallas before being ap- pointed to the chiefs position in Sachse. "I am looking forward to meeting and working with the residents of Sachse. I think people here are more friendly." Jenny is the daughter of Noble and Debbie Seely of Sachse and Amy is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Parks of Sachse. Pa9« « SACHSE SENTINEL DECEMBER 1966 Bingo Checks Sent Out State Comptroller Bob Bullock sent checks in November totaling SI.051.449 to the 101 cities and 68 counties who have legalized charity bingo and levied the two-percent local gross receipts tax on the game. "We've returned more than S8.8 million to local governments in the three years people have been playing legal charity bingo in Texas," Bullock said. The City of Dallas received the largest check among cities levying the tax, for S65.287. Fort Worth's check was for S46.057, and Houston received S41.859. Dallas County also received the largest check among bingo tax-levying counties, for S106.933. Harris County's check was for 573,952. and Tarrant County receiv- ed S61.414. Bexar County received a check for S44.646. A total of 1.468 non-profit organiza- tions are licensed to hold bingo games in Texas. Ms. Sullivan explained how to make many beautiful decorations for the home and gifts to either keep or give as presents. Barbara also explained how to cut the cost of decorations by using what you have on hand or purchasing less expensive materials. Under terms of a 12-year contract with Wichita Falls Energy Company, custom- ers of Dallas Power & Light, Texas Elec- tric Service Company and Texas Power & Light will receive 75,000 kilowatts of electricity from a cogeneration facility to be built near Wichita Falls. Customers will begin receiving the electricity in 1987. The agreement with Dow Chemical Company involves a two-year contract under which TUEC will purchase up to 450,000 kilowatts of cogeneration during the peak winter period of mid-December through mid-February and summer months of June through September. Pag* 20 SACHSE SENTINEL DECEMBER 1986 Charter Commission Organize On November 12, 1985 Mayor Henry Luman and members of the Sachse City Council metwith members of the Charter Commission to elect a chairman and to organize the Commission. Bill Lofland, who helped with Rock- wall's Charter, Bill Pitstick with NTCOG, and Tim Perkins, city attorney, briefed the Commission and outlined the goals that needed to be accomplished. Mr. Perkins explained his role with the Commission. He said that he had been instructed to help guide the Commission with any legal questions that may come up and asked them to call on him for advice. Mr. Pitstick spoke on his past experi- ence helping other cities in drafting their Charter. Mr. Pitstick has been Executive Director with NTCOG for the past 19 years. Page 22 SACHSE SENTINEL DECEMBER 1986 New Estimates For Commache Peak Announced Revised cost and schedule estimates for the Comanche Peak Nuclear Plant were announced today by Texas Utilities Elec- tric Company. The new estimates are included in the Company's revised resource plan for meeting area electricity needs through 1995. The plan is based on estimates of growth in TUEC's service area over the next decade and includes the company's plans for meeting growing needs for electricity. A detailed reanalysis and reinspection effort presently is underway at Coman- che Peak. The company estimates this effort, and all related plant modifications that may be necessary, will be complete in time to support commercial operation of Unit 1 in mid 1987 and Unit 2 six months later. If this schedule is achieved, it is esti- mated the plant will cost $5.46 billion.
