Sheep and Cereal Growing. [Newspaper Article] — Tocumwal Guardian and Riverina Stock Journal — 5 December 1919

Sheep and Cereal Growing. The best aiul cleanest ctreal crops t \ in the Wagga crop competition this ■' season are ou furms ou which sheep are carried. There are still a large number of farmers in Southern Riverina, who do not apparently realise the value of slieep. It is surprising how many of them have not yet made their fences sheep proof, and there i3 a remarkable paucity of sheep on the holdings. Ap.irt from the direct profits that accrue from keeping sheep, the in diiect benefits to agriculturalists arc inestimable. The ' auimal of th. goldeu hoof" eats off the rub bi.sa on the fallow, fertilises the lau-J, consolidates the soil and very fr, quently be used with advantage in pasturing the growing crops dur ing the winter months. "The more sheep the larger Is the income from the farm," remarked Mr A. Alleyn,- a successful farmer at Downside, in the Wagga district, which is one of the leading cereal growing parts of New SouthWale3. " If farmers could ruu ten sheep an acie so muc...
