CRICKET. MARRIED V. SINGLE. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

CRICKET. MARRIED V. SINGLE. The match between the above two sections of Wagga's community, commenced on the Gtli, was concluded last Saturday in favor of the Married, who pulled the match out of the fire by 26 runs, chiefly owing to the stand made by Mackinnon, who carried his bat out tf9r ntiis. The 011I3' one of the single gents V vwlio did not fall a harmless victim to the bowling was Gordon, with 18. Wo arc happy to state that the game was played throughout iu a most friendly manner, there being no disputes about umpiro's decisions. \Ya<j<ja Facade.—Some of these are con spicuous for their beauty, sonic for their ugliness, anil sonic for neither, being scarcely worthy of the name. .Such is Mr. Hunter's, opposite the (Jourt House, better known as Hunter's on the Jlill. J1 is outside show is certainly not inueli, but we notice liis internal arrangements are being made more com modious. He is now opening n show room that will be fully as largo as bis upper shop, for the proper display of liis stock of Pianos and Sowing Machincy, This was much wanted, for lately his shops havo been so 'crowded with goods that it was impossible to turn in them comfortably ; and bis successful introduction of the system of time payment in disposing of Sewing Machines has so in creased the traffic in those indispeusablo adjuncts to every Happy Home, that a commodious show-room for their display had bccomc an absolute necessity for Wagga.— Advt. tue-fc.

ITEMS OF NEWS. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 17 November 1875

1 THAIS OF NWS. Tjib .sudden changes which have taken place in the weather since the commence ment of the month, hnvo astonished not a few; amongst whom may bo included some of the oldest residents of the district, who .affirm that they have never experienced such cold weather in November hereabouts as they have done this year. On Saturday, Sunday, and Monday the atmosphere was decidedly summery, but yesterday ib turned sufficiently cold to be called wintry. Several heavy showers also fell yesterday afternoon, and wheu we went to press more rain seemed imminent. PunsuAXT-to noticc, a spccial meeting of the members of the W.ipga Cricket Club was held in the Council Chambers on Monday night.- There was a very fair attendance, all the leading players of the Club being present. The only business transacted was to consider the liberal ofFer made by Mr. A. Cf. Jones to give a handsome cup to be contested for be tween the various clubs in the district. It was unanimously resolved to accept...

THE SPECTRE OF THE BLACK SWAMP.—AN OVERLANDER'S STORY. (Australian Journal.) [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 20 November 1875

THE ' SPECTRE OF THE BLACK SWAMP.—AN OVERDANDER'S . STORY. . , (Australian Journal.) 'It's many years ago—commcnccd the overlander—since I became acquainted with the Box, Forest station. This station was owned by a Sydney firm, and was worked by a manager. Being a cattle station, but very fow hands were employed on it, and they, for the most part, had been in the servico for many years. Indeed, such a length of time, has elapsed since the period to which I refer, that I have now bnt a •faint remembrance of any of these omployos with the exception of two. These two, however, are all that are requisite for the understanding pf this story, and I shall briefly describe them. John Warfield was what we cattle men call a" super"—that is, an over, seer acting under the manager. He was a'dashing young fellow, of about Boven , or eight-and-twenty, and vory popular. Good-natured to a fault, and courageous to recklessness, ho always took upon himself the carrying out of any enterprise which pre...

WAGGA CUP WEIGHTS. [Newspaper Article] — Wagga Wagga Advertiser — 20 November 1875

"VYAGGA OUP WEIGHTS. iir vaitesuox.
