Brigands and Pirates, j It has been considered as a specially inhuman characteristic of savage warfare to strike at the fighting men on the other side through their women and child ren, but we are conducting this war after the manner of savage brigands and pirates, and it ap pears that there is no infamy to which we are not prepared to descend to defeat those who have fought so gallantly and well in defence of their homes and independence. — 'usticc. THE WOMAN PAYS SO DOES THE CHILD. [Newspaper Article] — The People and the Collectivist — 15 September 1900

THE WGMM PAYS, SO DOES THE CHILD. ALL morality is based upon property. All honor has its roots in property. The most sacred thing in the universe is property. Illuse, ravage, and outrage men, wolnen and children : but. lay not impious hands on p operty. Property is divine ; everything ' else animate and inanimate must perforce give way before its' sacred behests. Apropos tht! Du'li/ iri miner's recent weep at the barbarity of an obsolete law which prevents parent's obtaining justice from seducers of iheir daughters, one of the judgi'S lately commented very strongly on the fa-?t that the only way of obtaining any reparation- was in sum-! for loss of service, thereby claiming money compensation. Now, the . L). /. knows, so does the judge, that human tlesh is regarded by the capitalist class as a mere com modity, every law being based upon the ' sacred rights of property.' The law dealing with seduc tion is one of the bedrocks of capitalist domination and class legislation. It was enac...

AN ADVERTISING DODGE. THE CHARITY OF CAPITALISM. [Newspaper Article] — The People and the Collectivist — 15 September 1900

HN ADVERTISING O0OSE. THE CHARITY OF CAPITAL ISM. Ox Thursday ot' last week Sydney Town Hall was packed with a vulgar display of capital ist ' Society for the sacred cause of charity, and Xn aid of the Hospital for sick children. The show was boomed by the capitalist press and used by all the shoddy and (sweating con cerns as a huge advertisement for their goods. No firm was permitted to advertise unless it paid a minimum price — and the whole affair was on a strictly ?cash basis. ' Ladies of Society ' for the occasion transformed themselves into, walking adver tisements, and young and attrac tive women were resplendent in gorgeous robes proclaiming the unsurpassable merits of Liver'ssoaps, Sweater's lollies, or Grinder's Shoddy. Whisky and tobacco were also strikingly ilia played, together with nearly' every product of Sydney profit mongering. It. was a *reat sight ; ' a magnificent success !' — and a drst class advertisement — all for the sake of the 'poor' sick children. Thousand...
