Cricket Notes DENILIQU1N v. NATIVES. [Br DncK-Eao.] The cricket match between tha above clubs which was commenced on the previous Saturday was continued on Saturday last, nnd was won by the Natives by 62 runs. Tho day was coul, with a strong south westerly blowing, but although soni'jwliat helping the bnwlera the cricket displayed was Rood. As usual, tho attendance of spectators was small. I have said before that, ilis-n great pity the cricket loving members of our community do not show their appreciation of the noble pastime by their attendance at the matches, aud I again reiterate the utatcment. Open Column. THE PROPOSED EDWARD WEIR. (To the Editor of the Independent.) [Newspaper Article] — The Independent — 6 December 1901

Open Column. THE PROPOSED EDWARD WEIR. (To the Mitor of the Indeaendent. - . ' Sir,— I read with greac interest your article on the proposal to constructs weir acr-jHn the Einard river at Deniliquin, and it is to be hoped that the proper fiv-tliiirities will lake the matter up and carry tt through t-- cotuple:ion. . I . fe.l sure that if the work is con structed near the Waterworks as at pre sent suggested, thut the flood waters or when the river is hii;h would be a menace to the many residents who 'reside in Davidson-street, North Deniliquin, be cause the waters would be throwu back *nd div.-rted across .that thoroughfare, snd therefore the question of situ is a very important fnctor. I would suggest that the work be con structed wi'b £ond guteB so that in times of .high river the sates may be left ijpen nad only shut, when ilie' river water is weeding, and so impound what is* re-' quired. .,' . .
