Fancy Dress Skating. Carnival AT MORNINGTON. A BRILLIANT GATHERING. EXHIBITION OF TRICK SKATING. On Saturday night last a skating carnival was held in the Mechanics' Institute, Mornington, and proved a most enjoyable and brilliant function. The skating throughout was good and well worth witnessing, and the cos tumes (especially those worn by the ladies) were simply beautiful. To the music, very nicely played by Miss Harrison, the carnival was opened with a grand March, BMr Richardson (the fancy skater) and Mrs W. Doherty leading off; then followed all the others in pairs, finishing with little Jimmy Adams, as Teddy Bear, whose appearance caused much amusement. As they glided round on the floor, the graceful skating of the leaders was much admired especially .their waltz ing. The costume worn by Mrs Doherty was particularly pretty and effective. Shoreham Rifle Club. The annual-meeting of this club, was held in the State school on Saturday evening, Mr Penman in the chair. In dealing with the past year's doings, it was stated that 22 members had completed the musketry course. Of these. T. Graves was the most successful, scoring 174 points out of the possible 200, and thus gaining the nrize for the best shotin the club. -WV. C.eave,.the former champion, was somewhat below his usual form, though in winning the Duffy trophy from scratch he showed some of his old skill. The balance sheet showed a credit bal ance of £8 3s 4d, the expenditure being £10 8s. The chief item of expenditure was £5 5s given in cash prizes for the musketry course. TO THE EDITOR OF THE STANDARD Sir,-Some time in January of this year a movement was started in Hastings to afford bathing facilities for the use of its inhabitants and for the numerous visitors during the summer months. At present there are none, if we except the pier and an inaccessible bathing box-on a mud flat about half-a-mile from the town. Considerab!e interest was taken, and a public meeting was held in the Hall on January 11th, when it was de cided' formksi chibaby'to' lefii l~ertl he Hastings Swimming Club, :for the purpose of erecting baths on the foreshore.
