BOOLIROO CENTRE COLUMN. [Newspaper Article] — The Times and Northern Advertiser, Peterborough, South Australia — 2 July 1920

.OOLIROO CENTRE COLUMN. (By "Augh.") June 26.-A mantle of green ver dure is now beatifying the earth. and proving a source of succulence to animal needs. Crops are growing well, and wirh the excellent storage of moisture now in the ground they should thrive. Fallowing is proceed ing slovtly for those in the saturated valleys, but is being pushed on with on the higher lands. The roads north and south are worse than fallowed fcelds with the cutting trail of the wheel tracks through the bottomless slush lliat serves as lanes of passage to and from our town. It is becoming im perative that the District Council oi Port Germein, one of the largest in the Commonwealth, should be divi ded into two council district to have any just attention given t.> its re quirements. We are. as ratepayer-, entitled to have our roads repaired, but we seem to be on a very poor wicket when the vastness of the dis trict pushes us out of consk'erati- n as it .often does. A PIG TALE. [Newspaper Article] — The Times and Northern Advertiser, Peterborough, South Australia — 9 July 1920

A PIG TALE. "It i? not every day you kill a pig," is an old saying which was verified in 8 more than casual way in our district. A well-known farmer, having a mighty porker needing dispatch for bacon-like preservation, was in some trepidation of spirit as to how the fin ality was to he accomplished. By what seemed to be fortuitous force of cir cumstances. a northern gent, a recent acquisition to the neighborhood, had given out that he was an expert in the art of pig-killing, so the above farmer secured his services for the great oc casion, feeling relieved in tnind to V know that,' under expert management, the killing oi the pig would be an easy task. \ By 11 o'clock a.m. on the day. ap pointed the "northern expert" arrived at the scene of contemplated murder" and, having., inspected ^ the animal to be re duced to bacon, gave it as his opinion, that the animal was a monster and would require*at least.a 400. gallop ves sel to be scalded in when dead, .as no water holding utensil coul...

SEARCHING FOR WATER. [Newspaper Article] — The Times and Northern Advertiser, Peterborough, South Australia — 9 July 1920

SEARCHING FOR WATER. This would be a marvellous country it only there were plenty of water ?available when and where it was wan ted. Plants of almost every kind would -flourish, and bring both wealth and hap piness to the people. In many-parts of -the State, .however, good water is more precious than any other fluid, and there are times when it is even. more desir able than gold, for the yellow metal -cannot purchase it. The residents . in .some of the west coast districts art among those who adequately appreciate .what an absurd supply of first-class water means, because they have had bit ter experiences *)i the privations and disabilities due to a lack of it. Hence the eagerness with which they welcome any project which aims at helping them in this respect. When Mr. H. R. T?om erv, of Peterborough, recently visited the Hundred of Goods, he was received with open arms, for it was known that he had been successful on the mainland in discovering hidden streams of water. He made no pr...
