To judge by the unqualified success ^ the Penshuvst and District Agricul jral Society's show on Thursday, ifc ould appear that the dropping of the xture last year on account of finan ai stringency has not done a great eal of harm. Prosperity was in vidence on every side, and this year's bow should nearly constitute a record om Na financial point of view. A II jlorious day tempted euerybody and ;ave the, ladies that opportunity so , learly loved on such occasions of miug out in all their glory. From appearances, the attendance seemed I; ibove the average. The gate money ; amounted to £21 7s 6d, but this sum, though seemingly small, cannot be i taken as an indication of th« attend ^ ance, for this year nearly 300 mem-, j ber's tickets were sold, which will of T) dcourse make a considerable difference ; when the total receipts are reckoned. | The show ...

The night we landed spent bullets were dropping around us and one chap was unlucky enough to get hit. The next morning at nine o'clock the shelling began to   come at us and continued so for three quarters of an hour and I can assure you we lost no time in getting to our dug-outs. Some of the shrapnel came into the dug-out that my mate and I live in. The place is all hills and gul lies, and these are nothing but a mass of saps, dug-outs and trenches which shows the fine work that the boys have done here and are at present do ing. F Twomey is here in the same gully as myself. He rather likes the game and is setting a fine example to men of his position, if he can do it others in the same position as he occu pied ought to come along. I don...
