The Pioneer. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 11, 1896. RENMARK RENEGADES. [Newspaper Article] — Renmark Pioneer — 11 December 1896

%\t lioitttr. FRIDAY, DECKMBKlt 11, 1896. KENMAJ1K RENEGADES. Combination 111 all things id a scource of strength, and among the producers of any commodity it, is especially so. It is only by strict co-operation of Renmark fruitgrowers that remunerative prices for dried frrit can be maintained. If two or three stand out from the Pack ing Union and market their produce' for iheir first instalment they nay be able to get a better price than through the incorporated company, but unless they pat up a very much better sample than the average they will soon find marketing outside the Union very detrimental to their interests. It will also be a very one-sided arrangement if those, who are meditating co-oper...

TO THE EDITOR. Sib,—It is a pity to have to demol ish this pretty picture of the " seven simp'e laymen &c.;" but it mnst be so, for the facts are as follows :— (1.) The scheme for the construction of a dam, at a posiim near No. 1 Pump, to h.)l«l up the water at certain seasons of the year, and thus save pumf-i ig, is nearly as old as the settle in snt itself. (2.) M sssrs. George, Wil liam ai d C. F. Cliaffey and myself ex amined the site, roughly estimated the cos:., and generally sketched out the scheme, in '90: I afterwards took c *osp sections of the creek for the work. (3.)
