NEW STATE SCHOOL, CREMORNE STREET. [Newspaper Article] — South Bourke and Mornington Journal — 31 July 1878

NEW STATE SCHOOL, CREMOREE STREET ,The new State school in Cremorne street .is the Cmost receit addition to the architecture of the Ssobthern end of the town. It is'ahandsome build ing, but the fact of it standing end on to the street ;instead of the front of the building facing 'the .street does not display it to advantage. However, there the structure is, and it is useless to express regret. The building stands on a good-sized piece :,obfland, the back of it being at the extent of the 'allotment on the north side, whilst in front'of it is .the area intended for the playground. It is nota very ,nice arrangement, but probably it could not be 'avoided, that the closets and urinals are placed on 'prt'of the playground. This seems the only mis take or oversight about the arrangements. There ,was the diilleulty of getting a site large cnough in the locality, and therefore it must be supposed 'that' the Department did the best that could be "dobie.' The frontage to Cremorne street is abo...

FLINDERS AND KANGERONG SHIRE COUNCIL. Saturday, 27th July. [Newspaper Article] — South Bourke and Mornington Journal — 31 July 1878

FLINDERS AND KANGERONG SHIRE Present:the President (John Barker junr.) Councillors McLear, Cain Anderson, Ford and Henderson. As had been anticipated considerable dis cusion ensued on the resumption of the question touching the action of councillor Henderson in interfering with the drains whereby his and the adjoining lands were   completely submerged. A letter was read from Mr. Peddle, complaining of the damage done to his property through the water being diverted from its proper channel, and the outlet stopped up.Pointing out that the fact of Mr. Henderson being a Councillor rendered him more culpable in violating the law and ,that if the Council did not take   cognizance of his having done so it could not consistently prosecute for similar offences in future. Mr. Watkin also stated that he had and was still sustaining great injury from the same cause. The President thought that a reprimand would meet the case.   Councillor Anderson however t...
