The fellows must. have f:ancied the race of Bacchanals were ordinary men, foolishly knock'ng down their money. Anyhow, Searle and Balan were so far thrown off their guard that they let some expressions fall. about the gold,' From the action of the men and the words spoken, Berrill. knew they were the birds he was after. On the strength of this assumption the' men were arrested and I think the black.; trackers were called on to search, fur the hidden 'treasure: Whether they were or not, matters little, suffice it to say there..was not much difficulty in dis-e. covering it. The murderers paid the extreme ip'enalty " of the law. My father had. a. ST. GEORGES' G.C. V. SUNBURY JUNIORS CHRISTMAS AND BOXING DAY. [Newspaper Article] — Sunbury News and Bulla and Melton Advertiser — 30 December 1893

ST; GIEORGEES( '. : . s. VSNBTJRY JTUIORS. COHRIISTMAS AND BOXINo DAY.: - 'o pretty spectacle of dainty frocks and face- enriched the Juniors' ground. on Mfonday, no haunting eipectations with regard to lunch distracted the keenly attentive spectators who-crowded there. The people who went to see this match had a finer taste in batt ing than in frocks, Long before two o'clock people were flocking to the ground and by three o'clock the place was filled with a true cricketing. crowd -spectators who knew good cricket when they saw it, and could applaud pretty strokes if deserving. A little rain fell during the morning, but -it cleared off before the time fixed for play, and the early afternoon proved delightfully fine, with a welcome absence of the intense heat which prevailed last week, finishing up with a strong wind down the pitch towards evening. The visitors were unfortunately weakened by the absence of some of their most prominent players, while on the other hand, the Juniors had...

... - A:.'AT: I I.i TO ;.UPPE: .. c .MAGEDON,- : -----. I --- --- gl A better time of the year than the n present could not be selected for a visit ft to Macedon and its surroundings. The ti little railway station presents a lively c scene with arriving visitors, for the fact ' that His Excellency the Governor a " Lady Hopetoun have taken up- heir residence for the summer in ?iriealth- I ful mountain resort, is fiough in itself r to attract visit2is from the metropolis c and elsw'liere. BALQUHIDDER AND THE MACGREGORS. [Newspaper Article] — Sunbury News and Bulla and Melton Advertiser — 6 January 1894

DALQUHIDDER AND THE Se MACGREGOteS. Sthe gldow of sune desire to call to life agablen d upon hits modest eencloes and persons of. bygone days, Baiquhidder can furnish him fgrom its own wild and ppears to-day a fair and .with memories and suggestions enough. The roofl:us ruin of the ancient kirk of Baiqu hidder stands on a little" knoll close, by the hamlet, at the foot of the mountains. *With the glow of sunset falling upon its ivied gable and upon its modest enclosure of grass. grown graves, it appears to-day a fair and tranquil spot. Amid a silence scarcely broken even by the murmur of the mountain rivulet at hand, it seems strange to picture aught' but scenes of peace. And peaceful 'and saintly enough is ,at least one of the place's memories;, for here, under a quaintly' carved and timeeworn stone, the Clach Aenais, rest the remains of Angus, a disciple of Colutiba, whodoubtiesg in his own day brought to the strath the message and the arts 6f- gentleniess. LEG OF MUTTON. [Newspaper Article] — Sunbury News and Bulla and Melton Advertiser — 6 January 1894

LEG OF MUTTON. If the novice would become acquainted with the flavour of garlic, let him begin with a leg of mutton, with a small clove inserted into the knuckle before spitting, and have the joint served up with white haricot beans. The latter so seldom ap pear on English tables that it is neces sary to mention that they must be soaked at least twenty-four hours before cooking; and even then they will be "unnegoti able" if the water be hard. It is there. fore better to put a little carbonate of soda into the water.
