'LAST NIGHT I DREAMT.' Last Wednesday's issue of our contem porary contained the following:— 'The first of, a series of picture pops was held at the Colloseum last night. . . the star drama was a 'Dipsomanic . . . and the excellent , programme was enjoyed by a fine house.' This certainly makes one wonder to what length the imagination will go, as the pro prietor of the Colosseum graciously informed his patrons tuat, as a snow in aia ot tne Hed Cross funds was on in another house in the town on the same night, his perfor mance would not take place. It would barely. go under a 6ft. 2in.r rail, The price was a record for Orange. ♦ -a * « v * There is still a shortage of doctors for service w'th the Australian Expeditionary' Forces. This becomes more marked as ad ditional reinforcements are being organised.. Bishop Long, speaking at Bathurst, said it was wrong to abandon the duty of national service to individual inclination. It was un just to allow the war to be decided by the voluntary system. The voluntary system was inadequate. If persisted in, it might lead to disaster, for the needs of the mill- \ ' tary situation could not be met this way. Two young giants, in the ' persons, of Messrs. Cecil and 'Bob' Green, of Wallan gambone, left Coonamble for camp after be ing on final leave. Both these warriors stand over 6ft. 2in. in their socks, and are built in proportion. They should be able to give the-, Turks a fine lift...

Mondays Demonstration. [Newspaper Article] — Democrat — 9 October 1915

But, boiled down, have we anything to rejoice over? Have the _ unionists of the valley secured anything to wards achieving their ends? Are they any nearer the goal they are aimine at than thev were twelve months ago? Is the legalised eight hour day an accomplished fact? To all the above queries we must answer no. Promises on promises were made at the , hustings, but there it ended. Not a single effort has been made., by .the party...
