I It is understood that on Tuesday evening next the Prahran counoil wi 1 give further consideration to the question of filling the vacancy caused li y the retirement of Town Clerk Mortley. The probabilities are that Mr John Romanis will be appointed Acting Town Clerk for a limited period. At all events, it is scated that the council does not intend to allow any unnecessary time to elapse before making an appointment of a definite character.

Sooth Yarra Trades Club. A meeting of members of the South Yarra Trades Club was held in the club rooms on Thursday evening last. The President, Cr Dobson presided, and there was a good attendance of members. A motion was proposed by Mr D. S. Oakley, seconded by Mr Moore, and supported by Cr Skinner and Mr L,. H. Wells, to the effect that the membership fee be increased to ten shillings per annum. The motion was carried unanimously. State School Sports. The State School Sports were held on the Melbourne cricket ground on Wednesday afternoon, in the presence af about 4000 children and a couple of thousand adults. Everything went off excellently, and the weather was simply perfect. The see* was an admirable one, and tn*, organisation splendid. The committee and officials, and the hon. secretary (Mr G. E. Dean^ must be highly complimented on the excellence of the arrangements. Municipal Concerts. ] Mr F. A. Gray, hon. sec. of the Prahran City Band, wrote accepting the council's offer for the band to play in the Victoria Gardens on the same terms as the previous year. Between 28 and 30 players would be provided, this number being in excess of that agreed on, but the band hoped that the council would see its way to allow the band to have one evening in the gardens during the season for its own benefit.

Memorial Tablet. [Newspaper Article] — Malvern Standard — 16 November 1907

Memorial Tablet. At St. Matthew's Church, Prahran, on Thursday evening last, a tablet was unveiled to the memory of the late Bishop H. A. Langley, a former incumbent of the ohurch. The cere mony was performed by the Bishop of Bendigo, the Rev. John Langley, brother of the deceased. The Rev. W. T. C. Storra, M.A., also took part in the ceremony, and both gentlemen made impressive remarks anent the life's work of the departed Bishop. There was a large congre gation present. The tablet is of excellent and neat design, and is placed in the chancel, opposite the organ. It is made of marble, and surrounded by Oamaru (N.Z ) stone, and is inscribed as follows : " In memory of the Bight Kev. Henry Arch dall Langley, incumbent of this church 1873-1890. Conse crated first Bishop of Bendigo 24th February. 1902 Died 5th August, 1906. Oar suffering is of God." Arctic Explorer-During our whole two years in the Polar region we couldn't wash ourselves once. Tommy-Mamma;, can't wa move there.
