IMPORTANT. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 21 January 1910

IMPORTANT. Concernint nonnoe parts of the district news conies but seldom. Thisis not the fault of the Editor, for he has no nilracu lous power of knowing what is happenine in all the area of circulation. It is the fault of residents in the silent places. Will solie man or wotman take til matter in hand and cause the silence to If no one else is doing it for your dis trirt will YOU try on these lines? Send accounts of public and social events in your township or neighborhood, such as weddings, deathls, accidents. con certs, matters touching the industries, etc. Write your name in some corner; not for printing, but for good faith. Write the names of persons very dis tinctly. Do not bother about granmsr or spelling ; it is the Editor's work to look lfter these trides. The barest skeleton is enough. Write on one side of the paper only. Give information but let criticism alone.

The Pamous lemnedy for Pleursy9 hma& Oonsu ption Those who have taken this medicine are amazed at its splendid healing power. Sufferers from Bronchitis, Cough, Croup, Asthma, Difficulty of Breathing, Hoarseness, Pain or Soreness in the Chest, experience delightful and rapid relief; and to those who are subject to Colds on the chest it is invaluable, as it effects a complete cure. It is most comforting in allaying Irritation in the Throat and giving Strength to the Voice, and it neither allows a Cough nor Asthma to become chronic, nor Consurnp tion to develop. SNOWSTORMS ON THE MOON. [Newspaper Article] — Alexandra and Yea Standard and Yarck, Gobur, Thornton and Acheron Express — 21 January 1910

SHOWSTORMS ON .THE MOOH. Professor Pickering of ?Taarc Obsenratory has found snow on the moon. At least he believes so, and his curious photographs upon which he bases his opinion are being care fully studied by astronomers. In any event the photographs shos that there is a deep white deposit on the lunar surface. If it be snow then old theories are upset, and our nearest celestial neighbour has an atmosphere and water. Thus the old belief in the darkness of the moon must become a thing of the past. This idea In itself is revoluntion ary, for the rfoon has hitherto, al most universally been regarded as an absolutely and hopelessly dead, frozen, asphyxiated, little world. where nothing ever changed, where there was no air, no water, no vap our, no motion, no activity of any kind. But if it can be shown that the moon long famous for its apparent barrenness, may nevertheless support some kind of life, then more promis ing looking worlds, such as Mfara and Venus, must come to be regard ...

AN EDITOR'S WOES. Editing a paper is a nice thing and no mis take. If we pulhsh jkes, people, say we are rattle-braiurd; if we don,t we are fooah. If we publish original matter; they say we do not give them enough seections, we are too lazy to write. If we don't go to church we are heathens; if we go to church we age hypocrites. It we remain in the oflice we ought to be out looking for news; if we go out then we are not attending torbbusicsas.. If we wear old clothes, they laugh. at us ; if wear gbod clothesl they say we are extravag ant. Now, what are we to do ? Just as likely as not. someone will say that we pur loined this from another paper. So we did:.

Tar Federal election campaign has com menced in real earnest, and retiring can didates are preparing for tlihefray. The elections pramrise to be of' a strenuous nature, and the manl who would succeed must be ready to sacrifice time and interests to visit every corner of: his- elcotorate. One thing should al ways-ho borne in mind by the public, and that, is the prevention of the recurrence of. the three-party system in ParlLaucnt. We have long since pointed out the evils of a three party legislature, and maintained that Aus tralia has only room for a Government oad an Opposition. During the last few months of: the reent Federal Par liamentary session there occurred a fusion between the anti-socialistic members of the House, with disastrous results to the Labor Government. For some time the old and new frI habitants lived very peaceably, until permission was given to extend the original plan of settlement by the landing of sonie freemen as farners or " boers ." Nine soldiers and sail ors received their discharge at the same time, and also becamle freemen or burghers, and located near iton dehosch.
