SUPPOSED BURGLARY AT A BANK. -- - (PRnoa THE WARRNAMBOOL STANDARD MAY 20.) Yesterday morning it was reported to the police that the Bank of Australia had been burglariously entered during the night, the thief having obtained aooess through a window of the bank. It appearsthat one of the clerks sleeps in a room on the ground floor, which communicates with the bank by a short passage. Prior to retiring to rest at about 11 on Sunday night, the clerk was in formed by the messenger of the bank that the shutters of one of the windows had been open all day, Sunday. To get to his quarters, the clerk had to' pass through the private dwelling and thence into the bank. On his way he found the window unshutted, as the messenger had informed him, and he states that he merely closed the shutters with out fastening them. FATAL MINING ACCIDENTS. dIARYnoROUan , Wednesday. An accident occurred at the Duke claim at midnight last night, by. which one miner was killed and another placed in danger. Their names are M'Evoy and Burns. They were at work in the facoeof a drive. -Burne;tur ned round to procure a truck, and had proceeded about five or six yards when the cement in ithe fach fell in, and a strong rush of water and drift immediately filled up the end of the drive, carrying the timber before it. M'Evoy was instantly overwhelmed, and Burns was pushed along and knocked down, immediately becoming jammed by thoietimber, which was forced over his legs, arms, and the lower part of his body. Assistance was instantly on the spot, and Ithe fiowing water and drift were kept from entering his mouth and nostrils, but so great was the weight upon him, and strong thet inrush of water and sand, that it occupied five hours to extricate him. ALEXANDRA POLICE COURT. MONDAY, 19Hrr MIAY, 1879. (Before B. Smith Eeq., P.M., and T. Hall,, Esq., J.'sP.) Police v Josephine Hanaghan; charged on remand with larceny from a dwelling, to wit, two rings and a cross, from the premises of Mr R. Johnson. The pollce asked for a remand for seven days to obtain evidence, the prisoner only having been arrested on Saturday night. Remand granted for seven days; bail enlarged. Police v J. T. Lucas. The defen dant was summoned for cruelty to a horse on the Yarra track; but as the offence if committed, was not committed in this Bailiwick, the case was dis. missed. The defendant, who resides at Woods Point, complained of having been brought all this way, as it was im possible to bring down his witnesses, unless at a cost of some £10 each. The P.M.-The case is dismissed, but may be brought on at Woods Point on my next visit, on Monday, the 9th June, it the police are so instructed.

SHOOKING DEATH OF A WOMAN. -4--t- Mr Candler held an inquest at Richmond on Tuesday upon the body of a woman named Anna Maria Addison, who died under circum stances of a very painful nature on the 18th inst. John Thomas Addison, labourer, Richmond, deposed,-The deceased was my wife. Heor ago was 33 years. On Saturday the 18th inst., at about half-past 10 in the morning, deceased was taken in labour, and I sent for the midwife, Ann Fear, now present, who had been ngaged to attend deceased in her confinement. She came immediately. Deceased was delivered of a child at half-past 11 ; another was delivered about an hour after.
