The Public Works. Too much praise cannot be awarded to the Board of Canal Commissioners for their persevering efforts to repair the damage fo the public works occasioned by rhe recent freshet. Their personal attention lias been unremittingly devoted to that object. A large force has been collected, and ihe work pushed forward with an1 energy which has removed all doubts of the practicability of repairing the entire line before the opening of the Spring business. The main line is now navigable from-Columbia to the Rope Ferry on the Juniata. Oh Saturday next, weV,understand, the water will be let in from New Hamilton to the Rope FeVry, sufficient to pass boats not very heavily laden. In consequence ot the mcchntiicnl structures to be repaired or rebuilt,'it wns not possible to open the-4ine between NewHnmilton and Holidiiysborg before the close of the present season. But the arrangements which have been made willensure tbe completion of all the repairs sometime in February, so t...
