COLLEGE DRIFT . [Newspaper Article] — Daily Illini — 5 October 1880
COLLEGE DRIFT . EXCHANGES . The Niagara Index is the first exchange of the year to arrive . The editor of this sheet is evidently an Irishman , Catholic and , by his own confession , a democrat and a beer-drinker , possessed of all the bigotry and conceit appertaining to such a combination . HiB paper represents the College of Our Lady of Angels . If this person is a fair specimen of Our Lady s Angels , it would seem that they belong not to the Heavenly band but to the legions of the lower world . The gentleman , however , is honest when he acknowledges that he is a green hand at the business , ! for that one can perceive at a glance . The articles , editorials , etc ., abound in inconsistencies , which a man of any experience whatever would hardly permit , especially in the same issue . For instance , he says : We shall endeavor , as as far as may be , to follow out closely the manner of criticism indulged in by our predecessor of last year , which , by the way , was anything but a...

After this when a grave is robbed we suggest that a fresh young medic be inserted to fill the vacancy . The Brown nine finished its record last year by being beaten by both Dartmouth and Princeton . The University of Rochester is without a chancellor , and the board of managers are desirous of having the Rev . J . P . Newman accept the position . —Ex . The freshman class at Wellesly College numbers 130 . Rev . Cyrus Hamlin , LL . D ., late of Constantinople , has accepted the presidency of Middlebury College ....
OUR BOOK TABLE . [Newspaper Article] — Daily Illini — 5 October 1880
OUR BOOK TABLE . American Newspaper Directory , George . P . Rowell & Co ., publishers , New York . Price , $ 5 . 00 . The twelfth annual issue of this splendid work contains over one thousand pages ot information concerning all the newspapers of the United States and Canada , together with a brief description of the towns and cities in which they are published . The accuracy of the statements of circulation , etc .. is wonderful . When we reflect upon the difficulties which lie in the way of such an enterprise , our admiration for the success with which it has been carried out by this reliable firm is unbounded . It is safe to say that such a book could have been produced by no one else . The long extended experience and wide-srjflad reputation for reliability which this firm possesses could alone accomplish the work . As it now appears with its perfect arrangement and exhaustive statements , it is of the highest value to all editors and advertisers . It is not only the...
