Beetles and Plant Lice , i I have been troubled with bugs and lice ; the latter threaten to * destroy my crop of cabbages . Early in the season striped beetles commenced to eat the leaves from a patch of sugar beets . I killed them at first , but they became so thick I found it . impossible to keep them down , and they have eaten the leaves very badly . I tried ashes , but they do not care for them . I have osage , potatoes , beans , turnips and corn near , which are untouched .
